Organization/Storage: DIY No-Sew Bed Caddy

Reading a book in bed can be a nightly ritual for lots of kids. A night stand can become a gathering place for books and stuff. Use a bedside caddy to organize things like a book, a small flashlight, or pen for a childs' room. This no-sew bed caddy took me all of 30 minutes to make - no kidding! Wouldn't this make for great mommy and kid time? Take your child shopping to purchase the supplies, then figure out a design and follow the simple steps. Kids really enjoy picking out fabrics to make their own project. No sewing skills needed - fabric glue makes this work. This project is a great mommy and me bonding experience (no pun intended)!

Supplies:

Table runner  14" x 72"

Fabri-Tac glue

Rick Rack 15" each color

1/4 yard cotton fabric

Heat'n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive

As you can see, this is a Valentine table runner. It doesn't matter since the fabric is folded over you won't see the Valentine print side of the runner. I folded the top edge of the runner over and glued the side edges using this fabric adhesive. This glue is amazing - the bond is completely secure.

Turn the bottom edge of the runner up and over the top edge. Glue the side seams.  This becomes the "pocket". Do not glue the top edge.  I glued the rick rack trim on the top edge of the pocket and folded the ends of the rick rack between the table runner edges. This way there are no loose threads showing.

Using your fabric choice - iron the Heat'n Bond Ultra Iron-On Adhesive to the back of the fabric. I cut out the 'S' monogram using my Cricut. Peel off adhesive backing, place the monogram on the pocket and iron. It's done! Round up some items to put in the bedside pocket.

Dimensions when finished:

14" width x 32" length

pocket is 14" in width and 10" in length

Place the bedside caddy between your mattress and box spring. Your child will enjoy using the bed caddy as a special spot to store and organize their things. If you're not interested in making one yourself, here's a great selection of bedside storage caddies
