Grey & Yellow Modern Nursery

Using grey paint on the walls as the foundation creates a neutral backdrop for the yellow and black accents that help make the room pop. The grey and yellow combo color has a clean, simple modern feel and is perfect for a gender neutral room.  Wall Paint: Benjamin Moore Silvery Moon. My favorites in the room:

  • yellow pouf

  • zebra rug

  • yellow dresser

  • cream colored with black piping rocker

  • and the abacus above the dresser

Room designed by Dina of Honey & Fitz (for her little boy Knox) with help from friend Nicole Lanteri of On My Agenda.

Vintage Fire Truck Boys Party

This awesome Vintage Fire Truck party was created by Amaris for her little boy using some of Modern Moments Designs Vintage Firetruck Party printables

As told by Amaris ...
"Party favors included a fire truck picture book with wheels, a Matchbox fire truck, a flashlight (which every firefighter needs) and Lifesavers. We also had a candy station, which was so much fun! I filled four candy jars with Bradley’s favorite treats and used a red scooper that his Grandmother made in high school. The drink station featured the picture of Bradley’s great-great grandfather driving the fire truck, his antique fire chief badge and a vintage fire extinguisher. The pretzel matches were a huge hit, too! I think they were everyone’s favorite!"

Isn't this the most awesome vintage firetruck party? To see more images and find out more about the party visit Modern Moments Design post vintage firetruck party

Why Airbrush Makeup?

Image and wording from Luminess Air
The Luminess Air is an Airbush Cosmetics System you might have seen on an infomercial, TV talk show or featured in major magazines. This system is what the professional make-up artists use but now everyday gals like me can! You don't have to be a trained makeup artist or makeup expert to start enjoying airbrush beauty.

I am a very lucky girl because I received a kit to try out and keep. I love how easy it is to use. Foundation and blush can be applied in a minute. The makeup doesn't cake like conventional makeup. By the way, if you think for a moment you might be able to airbrush wrinkles away, sorry that's a wish! I did like the fact I felt like I wasn't wearing any foundation. According to Luminess Air, all of their foundations are preservative free, alcohol-free, oil-free, and mineral based. More than just Foundation. Luminess Air features a full range of color cosmetics especially designed to be airbrushed. Achieve makeup application with ease with Eye Shadows, Blushes, Bronzers, Skin Care, Highlighters and more.

According to Luminess these are some benefits of airbrushing...

  • Minimizes the appearance of uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles and pores

  • Weightless makeup that never looks fake

  • Light to maximum coverage

  • Blends with your skin for a seamless color match

  • Trusted by dermatologists because it eliminates the cross-contamination that makeup brushes and sponges can cause

The Airbrushing Kit costs approximately $229.00 and includes the airbrush system, metallic storage kit, 4 Shades of foundation, blush and bronzer, and a DVD. There is the option to purchase a trial system beforehand for 30 days, which brings the price down to $29.95. If you like it, you can choose to purchase it. To purchase the makeup individually, it seems to be priced about what department stores charge for cosmetics.

How it works...

Why airbrush makeup? The airbrush is simple to use and very easy to learn. It's also a quick way to apply makeup. Plug the machine into an outlet. Then add a couple of drops of airbrush foundation (you can mix shades) to the stylus. Then spray.  You can use the eye shadow, bronzer and blush in the stylus also. Cleaning it is simple - add a couple of drops of water into the applicator, and spray the water out into the sink. This removes the leftover cosmetics and keeps your system sanitary and ready to use for your next spray.

Thank you to Luminess Air for this review opportunity and for providing product for testing and review purposes. The views expressed in this review are my own personal opinions unless stated otherwise.

Kids Lunch: How to Slice An Aussie Apple

Most kids are back to school and mom's (and dad's) are making lunches for their kids. I found this clever idea on how to slice an apple for a kid's lunch. It helps prevent browning and it's quick and simple. It's called an Aussie Apple (Australia origins) some kids take their apple to school sliced with a rubber band around it.

Cut apple into four slices and put back together like a block puzzle secure with rubber band. Another Lunch has the complete details and more lunch ideas.

Retro Kitchen Design Sets And Ideas

It's fun to see once in a while back and see what was considered hip and cool to the past. In this post we take a look at the kitchen of yesteryear - the 1920 to 1960.

Kitchens then used bright colors like yellow, green and blue with checkerboard jade plants and ways of life. Equally important are the cabinets painted glass buttons, vintage clothing and outstanding electrical devices that were intended to be used for long periods. In these days of disposable mentality unprecedented and people prefer to repair and reuse rather than replace it.

Find retro kitchens on the web is not an easy task. We can always use more help. If you have a retro kitchen that you think need to be presented here, please mention them in the comments. Also we have a constant stream of messages as cool to Home Design, and if you want to be notified when we have more than one such inspiring post, please subscribe to our feed or newsletter!

Rare as they come, are actually a couple of terrible sites out there that are dedicated to the documentation and digitization of kitchens past. Home Styles Antique is a website for example and we strongly recommend that if you are looking for a kitchen for example. Here are some pictures of their collection:
