Kids' Storage and Organization Ideas - Part 1

parents.com
Kids rooms that are clean start with parental help. Organizing your childs room and teaching them organizational skills will go far in helping them keep their room clean. Define kids activity zones by determining what activities your child likes to do in their room. Are your children doing homework in their rooms, playing, reading, etc? Create zone areas will help simplify where items belong. i.e. hamper, desk, bookcase, toy storage. Accomodating space within the bedroom for each activity will ensure a place for everything.

STEPS TO ORGANIZING YOUR KIDS ROOM:

Declutter

Help your child sort through their bedroom - sort, clean and simplify.

Storage Solutions:
Toys - Organize toys by groups into open bins or baskets. Depending on your childs reading skills, label containers with words or images.  A large toy box doesn't work for smaller sized toys.

An unusual  toy bin for balls or stuffed animals would be fun for a kids room.

Clothes
Kids need to be able to hang up or take down their own clothes. Make sure the closet rod is within reach of your child.

Laundry basket/hamper - sort the wash by having different bins for colors, whites, darks.

A good  closet organizer can help make getting ready on school mornings much easier with clothes already sorted for the week.

Wall hooks are a simple yet a wonderful tool to hang backpacks, purses, and jackets.

Reading Area
Create a good spot for reading. A bookcase/book shelf, plenty of books, reading light and a spot to sit and read help make for enjoyable reading.

Several years ago, we featured this amazing idea using rain gutters for book shelves.

In essence, designate a home for everything. Encourage your child to keep their room clutter free and organized. If your child is old enough, involve them in the organizing process.
