Purple in Tween and Teen Bedrooms

Even though Honeysuckle and Turquoise are extremely popular colors right now, I am still drawn to purple for a tween or teen rooms.  Purple is not as "girlie" as pink yet it still enables you to hold onto a little bit of femininity in your tween or teen's bedroom.

Purple is the color of royalty, purple is luxurious, purple, when used right, is sophisticated and purple can make a wonderfully understated room look amazing.

Purple is a unique color, being an almost equal combination of both a warm and a cool color (red and blue), it can be combined with either warm or cool colors, or both, or used on its own in a room and still look lovely.  And purple has enough sophistication that it is not only great for a baby's room, but it can make a fun, whimsical and sophisticated tween or teen room.

I love the look of this purple room.  The shag rug and pillows keep the room feeling young and would be the perfect place for your tweens/teens to have gab sessions after school.

This mod bedroom is whimsical and shows how purple, combined with cool colors, can look both fresh and sophisticated.

This purple and white room looks clean and shows a great way to use fun color in a small space.

I love this room and it does a great job showing how purple, when combined with warm colors, can feel inviting and luxurious.

Have you incorporated purple into your tween or teen's bedroom?

"Green" Room - Girls Whimsical Mermaid Bedroom

Sabrina Soto, host of HGTV's Get it Sold, created this darling mermaid/ocean themed citrus-infused girls room for a green home.
" The whimsical theme extends to the twin daybed, custom-crafted from reclaimed wood by carpenter David Brown and padded and upholstered in striped “Azalea” outdoor fabric. The room’s finishing touches are its best green stories. An ABC chair rail that runs the perimeter of the room features pegs crafted from reclaimed curtain rods. I was running out of time and scrambling to find the perfect wall art. I found this shop close to the HGTV Green Home that sold shells from farm-raised conch. I went with this whole ocean-mermaid theme and made the plaques out of wood scraps from the hardware store," says Soto.

This is my favorite idea from the whole room - custom made ABC chair rail that goes around the perimeter of the room. Pegs were fashioned out of discarded curtain rods.

Sophisticated Girls Bedroom

Such a classic, yet functional girls bedroom that softly says “sophisticated”. Sarah Richardson's designs are exceptional; she excels with her choices of bold striped, floral print fabrics.

Stacked colorful ottomans add to the bedroom decor and also make excellent storage.

Wednesdays - What Color is That??

teen green girls roomThe perfect shade of green can be a hard pick. Choosing paint for a teen girls room can even be a harder pick. But here it is Friendly Frog by Behr Premium Plus. Kathleen Wood describes how she designed and decorated her 15 year old daughters teen bedroom.
"I made the zebra pillows and added the zebra trim to the lamp, and to the bottom of the curtain panels. I also added zebra material to the backing of her desk to hide the computer and lamp wires - this was simply done with a staple gun. My husband built the bench, and I covered the cushion myself. I also "sewed" the skirt for the bench. Since I don't actually sew, all the "sewing" projects were done with sewing tape bought at the fabric store. The "Coco Chanel" art over the bench I created by searching images for Coco Chanel online. When I found the image I wanted, I sent it to ritzpix.com to be enlarged to fit the frame I purchased. The three pictures next to her dresser also have images in them simply printed from my computer."
