Urban Teen Boys Hangout

Dream Connection is a nonprofit, all-volunteer group that fulfills the dreams of children who have life-threatening or chronically debilitating illnesses. Wasted Spaces and volunteers from Dream Connection worked hard to create a very cool space for a teen boy with a life-threatening illness.
The family garage went from "garage-like" to a wonderful teen hangout. The room, was created in an urban, minimalist teen style, including corrugated metal and faux brick around the walls.

Initials were cut from a piece of plywood for custom artwork.

Black spray paint was applied to the wood and the piece was mounted over a sheet of metal to create a graffiti-inspired focal point.

Chain link fencing was used as a stair rail (see main room photo). Chain-link gates became frames for the teens beloved sports equipment.

To make the urban loft theme, sheets of faux brick sheeting were cut along the "mortar" lines and attached to the walls.

Corrugated metal panels aren't too expensive and can be purchased at your local building/materials store. The metal panel edges are sharp - you will need to finish them off with trim. Skateboards are mounted on a metal fence as wall decorations. Images from DIY Network.
