Classic Old Toys Nursery

This darling room design came to us from Lucia Tacla in Brazil. The amount of hand-painted detail in this room is simply amazing! From the text on the walls to the hand-painted pillows, Lucia did it all. The neutral colored walls serve as a backdrop to the tastefully done "classic old toys" theme that is carried throughout the room.

The story walls were hand-painted using a diluted paint technique to give it the light appearance. According to Lucia, "It was a challenge because each wall had a different measurement, and everything had to follow a metric and a self harmony".  Through trial and error, she created a story that works with the space and incorporates the classic toy figures in a pleasing pattern.

The knobs on the chest of drawers are hand painted little soldiers.

This looks like a haven of calm and tranquility!

The classic old toys theme even made it onto the custom designed fan blades.

A few of my favorite old classic toys...

Tree motif for baby nursery

Bringing the outdoors in. Lea, handcrafted this paper tree above the crib in her sons nursery. Love the simplicity of this tree - it sure makes a statement on the feature wall. The framed silhouette adds dimension and a personal touch to the wall. To view more photos of this nursery.

Stuffed Animal Couch

Not sure what to do with all those stuffed animals your child has collected. Here's an idea - a stuffed animal couch. This couch is displayed at Harrod's - not sure if it is for sale - but a fun couch. Just wondering how comfortable this couch is???? Photo provided by memimenam

Sewing Anyone?

Sew and create many baby nursery items with this Shirley Botsford Designs pattern from Simplicity. Gotta love the fabric flowers that attach to the crib slats with velcro - great idea. Makes me wonder what else I could velcro to the crib slats - small plush animals, etc??? Make sure items you don't want played with are out of reach of your baby. The classic bed skirt with box pleats gives this crib set timeless appeal.  I also like the different solid color fabrics with the yellow stripe in the middle on the bed skirt. The focal point of this room is the drape hanging over the crib. Be concerned about safety for your baby - securely fasten the crib drape to the wall. Want to tackle this nursery project? You'll need mid-level sewing skills or better yet call a friend who sews!
