Classic Old Toys Nursery

This darling room design came to us from Lucia Tacla in Brazil. The amount of hand-painted detail in this room is simply amazing! From the text on the walls to the hand-painted pillows, Lucia did it all. The neutral colored walls serve as a backdrop to the tastefully done "classic old toys" theme that is carried throughout the room.

The story walls were hand-painted using a diluted paint technique to give it the light appearance. According to Lucia, "It was a challenge because each wall had a different measurement, and everything had to follow a metric and a self harmony".  Through trial and error, she created a story that works with the space and incorporates the classic toy figures in a pleasing pattern.

The knobs on the chest of drawers are hand painted little soldiers.

This looks like a haven of calm and tranquility!

The classic old toys theme even made it onto the custom designed fan blades.

Gender Neutral Bird-Inspired Nursery

Here's a special baby nursery that is just right for a baby boy or baby girl! A bird-inspired nursery with bright colors of orange and teal make this a fun gender neutral modern baby room. Wall paint is Eddie Bauer Java at Lowes.

First time mom Taryn says, "There are a variety of ways to design a gender neutral nursery and birds are one theme that fits perfectly! I designed the room to be gender neutral because we didn't know what we were having until the big day! I chose a bird inspired theme and wanted to keep the style of the room on the more modern/contemporary side. I went with dark gray walls and pops of orange and teal.  I made all of the artwork in the room including the canvas wall art and the bird mobile. I love how the room turned out! It's inviting, completely one of a kind and something my daughter can grow with.

Meet my DIY bird mobile.  I handmade each of the birds using fabric I had in my collection along with a few new swatches I picked up at the local fabric store. After the birds were done, I attached them to a wreath I spray painted white.

The rocking chair was my big splurge for the nursery. Pottery Barn makes such comfy chairs, I couldn’t resist! We chose the rocker over the glider because this one came with chair legs, so down the road we can use the chair in different room. Brilliant idea PB!"

Birch branches with lights makes a great night light.

Nursery & Wall Art

"So many smiles begin with you". Darling quote for a nursery or any room for that matter. Erica Turnbow designed this grey nursery with pops of color for her little guy. She also gives instructions on how to make this large nursery wall art. The room wall paint is Olympic Quill (d16-2) Lowes. The darker shade is Olympic Stormy Weather (d16-3)

Update:
Part of the quote "so many smiles begin with" words were cut out on the Cricut machine using clear contact paper. The letters were placed on the board and then painted over (the contact paper was then removed).  The word "you" is the Marcell font shown below that was freehand painted by Erica. I'm not good at freehand drawing. So I use an inexpensive art projecter for tracing my projects.

Thank you Erica for answering our questions...

Any do-it yourself projects?

  • I recovered the glider in the room with Amy Butler's Solid Olive

  • I made the bunting above the windows out of scraps I had in my closet

  • I outlined cheap curtains with brown binding tape with wonder under

  • I created the alphabet poster in Illustrator and had it printed at Kinkos to fit a thrift store frame that I painted white

  • I decoupaged the lamp and the letters used for his name

  • I hand painted the "So many of my smiles" sign"

Please share any bedding, art, furniture finds?   What's your favorite purchase?

  • Bedding is Dwell Studio's Robin Motif (this bedding has been discontinued)

  • Vinyl from etsy.com

  • crib purchased from walmart.com

  • dresser purchased from amazon.com

  • My favorite purchase for this room was the glider.  My sister-in-law helped me transform my $5 garage sale find in to something that I love.  It fits perfectly in my son's room and is used every night to snuggle in!
