Happy, Colorful DIY Playroom!

Here's a delightful budget-friendly playroom done up in big bold colors and textures. Photographer-mom Ginny Phillips designed this colorful playroom around a decoration she made as part of a birthday celebration for London, her daughter. The "London Tree"  is made of circles of scrapbook paper, ribbon, and cardstock filled with photos of London taken during her first year. The colors from the "London Tree" show up throughout the rest of the room in the paper lanterns, the curtains, the furniture and the painted trees.

What kid wouldn't love to have their name in big, bold letters on the wall of the playroom? These letters made from scrapbook paper really stand out from the wall.

This room is just full of coordinating colors and textures that make this room super inviting.

Cowboy Baby Nursery

Get along little doggies! There's a new cowboy in town and boy is he happy with his charmingly rustic cowboy nursery. Mom Rebecca Forbush set out to do something different, and at the time- Cowboy decor wasn't as popular for nurseries as it is now. She says, "The cowboy room was fun because all 4 of my son's great grandpas have cowboy backgrounds.... made it all a little more special. Some of them contributed some of the decorations to his room, such as my dad's little cowboy boots when he was little."

The burlap on this wall isn't a funky new paint treatment, it's real burlap fabric tacked to the wall with rustic looking tacks. The denim of the other 3 walls, however, is painted on. Rebecca describes the steps: "You paint the wall first with a yellowish/ cream color then let dry, roll on a dark blue glaze and then go up and down, and side to side with a wallpaper brush.... really easy, and added a lot of character!"

The 2 red wall hangings with the black horse figures were re-purposed cabinet doors.

This super cute valence was put together using burlap and bandana-style fabrics.

Touch of Sunshine Girls Room

Too many colors? No way! This "big girl" room looks like it's been touched by sunshine with the sunny yellow bed and multi-colored accents against a sky blue wall. But that doesn't tell you the whole picture. Take a look at the focal wall for this room designed by photographer-mom Ginny Phillips:

Ginny says, "We made almost everything in this room…and that wall.  That wall.  That wall took sooo long…" I don't know about you, but I think her efforts really paid off!

The painted frames contain pictures of a very special 2 year old along with custom art that can be found at Ginny's Etsy store. Even a treasured remnant from a baby mobile made it onto the wall. The bed was purchased off of Craigslist and spray-painted with Krylon Yellow paint. Ginny says, "The bedspread was actually bought NEW from Urban Outfitters!  It was my splurge…a grey ruffle…and it was perfect.  The pillows are a mix from Etsy, Target, Hob Lob and some we already had.  The side table is Target and another thing we didn’t make.  We just taped the diamond pattern on the wall.  I spray painted 50 thousand things…the mirrors (2 we already had and were my grandma’s) I wanted bright yellow and floor to ceiling.  The bird cages I sprayed black and put ribbon on them as a faux chandelier.  The dresser was her changing table…I mod podged wrapping paper on top and changed the knobs to crystal knobs."

The letters for the "so many of my smiles begin with you" sign were cut using a cricut machine and then spray adhesive-d onto a painted canvas.
