Halloween Kid Crafts

It has taken me a while, but I finally feel ready for fall and Halloween!  As soon as October 1st hit, I was ready to decorate for Halloween!  And my daughter is certainly ready to "craft" for Halloween!  So I wanted to show you a few of my favorite Halloween kid crafts that are simple enough to do with your kids today!

Fill long skinny bags (like those used for holding decorated pretzels) with mini marshmallows.  Use a sharpie marker to draw eyes and a mouth to make these cute Marshmallow Ghost goodie bags!

Use Keelber fudge stripe cookies (upside down) a Hershey's Kiss and orange icing to make these cute Witch Hat Cookies.

Let your kids fill a glass vase with Halloween inspired candy!  Even the smallest kids can help you make this cute decoration!

Let your kids fold and trim cupcake liners to make a cute witch hat to top your spooky cupcakes with!

I couldn't help showing off a simple craft I did using dollar store vases and candle stick holders to make cute Halloween Candy Bowls!

What are your kids crafting this month?

Whimsical Witch's Legs

It's my birthday today (I'm turning 39 or so ; ) ) *wink*!!  I've got a full day planned so I'm reposting the witch's legs I made last year.  I wish I could show you pictures of my Witches Tea Party from last October. My computer crashed and took several months of pictures with it - including my Witches Tea table decor.  The witch's legs were used as the focal point of the table a "hanging chandelier".  Our family room has high ceilings so I made extra long legs so the bottom of the "witch's boots" hung about one foot above the table where guests were seated.

Striped stocking witch's legs hang from the ceiling to make a whimsical centerpiece for my Witches Tea Party.  The black umbrella creates the look of the bottom of a witches dress with "crinoline" (fluffy underskirt) added to complete the look of a dress! It's impossible to make witch legs without adding the iconic black boots.  I love the look of the skinny, bumpy legs and large witches feet!

Tutorial: how to make whimsical witch's legs....

Stuff a pair of black and orange striped stockings with batting (it will be lumpy).

Simplicity Traditional Loft Quilt Batting-Full Size 81 Inch X96 Inch

Draw the outline of witches boots onto black fabric (chalk is easy to draw on dark fabrics). Make sure to make the boots large - when stuffing and sewing they shrink in size. Sew around the edges (except the top) turn inside out and fill with batting. I hot glued the boots onto the stockings and then hand sewed a couple of stitches to the front and back of the boots to hold in place.

To create the look of crinoline - I used black tulle. I cut pieces approximately 20 inches long.

I snapped off the umbrella handle - easy to do considering this is a dollar store umbrella. Tie the stockings onto the spokes of the umbrella.

Tie the tulle onto the umbrella spoke.

This is the umbrella turned upside down with all the tulle tied onto the umbrella.

This DIY project makes a great whimsical hanging focal point!

Come In My Pretties.....

I thought I would share this Halloween door sign I made.  As some of you know, I'm hosting a Witches Tea Party soon - I felt this would be a fun greeting at the door. Usually this black frame hangs in my daughters bathroom...just borrowing for a couple of weeks. The wording was made using vinyl decal stickers by my friend NataLee who makes custom vinyl designs. The font is Waking the Witch from Dafont.com. I covered the cardboard insert with orange fabric and applied the decals. I can't wait to show you another project I've been working on! Coming soon...

More Fabulous Halloween Ideas!

I'm totally in LOVE with this Halloween save the date free download. As you can see, I'm planning a Witches Tea Party for my friends...more details later. I used this free download and made some adjustments.

Amy from Living Locurto is the mastermind behind these save the date downloads. How do you like the look of this dark spookier save the date? Cool huh?

How about a toe tag from the Office of the Medical Examiner for an invitation? Print this invite on cardstock, punch a hole and thread it with a string - easy invite.

Stefanie from Brooklyn Limestone is the genius behind these invitations. Check out her fab blog for the free download.

Don't have time to carve a pumpkin? Add tacks to make your own design! These clever, easy to design "tacky" pumpkins are from Poetic Home.

Make your own Halloween luminaries. Use brown paper bags - draw your own design and light brightly. Weigh down your luminary with sand, this will help it from falling over. If you have little kids around, skip the candles. Battery operated candles are a much safer bet. Image from here.

Halloween Idea Week!

Since I love HALLOWEEN so much - it's Halloween Idea Week here at Design Dazzle! For the entire week we will post fabulous Halloween ideas, and also our regular posts :)

Such an easy, inexpensive way to decorate for Halloween. Amy from The Idea Room decorated empty jars - pickle, salad dressing, etc with clever Halloween labels from another website Love Manor. You really need to check out both sites. Amy has wonderful ideas - thus her blog The Idea Room! I've been visiting Love Manor since last year - it's a website for Halloween lovers and it's wonderful!

This image is from LIFE (Hollywood audition for a black cat). I thought this was such a unique photo reminding me somehow of Halloween. Can you imagine us women dressing up like that now? And cats on leashes..hhmmm- LOL.
