Playrooms & Play Spots

Benjamin Moore’s Robin’s Egg Blue is the wall color of this fun-loving room. The wall color is the perfect background for the bright bold colors.

A spot to play is called a play spot.

Fabulous Ideas: Kitchen Accessories In Kids Rooms!

Have you thought about shopping in the kitchen aisle for kids rooms? Here are a few ideas I gathered showing ingenuity using kitchen accessories in kids spaces. How about using a magnetic knife holder (without the knives) as a car storage strip holder?  I would bet this is an easy way to get kids to put away those magnetic cars. Heck, I would make sure all the kids play cars were magnetic...

Magnetic strip covered in ribbon - used to hold art (also notice the curtain rods holding buckets full of art supplies).

This is none other than Bekvam spice racks from Ikea (only $3.99). Perfect for a small wall - each one measures 16.5 inches long. Bekvam spice racks come in the natural color only - these bright colored spice racks were painted.

Painted spoons (chalky milk paint) hung on a wall sure makes a sweet statement!

Baking sheets painted pink turn into a sweet magnetic memo board. The Dollar store is the perfect place to purchase baking sheets; make sure to buy nonstick or else it will be difficult getting the paint to "stick". Rolling pins as jewelry holders... who woulda thought???

Bistro Awning Tutorial

What a way to make a statement in a kids bedroom or playroom with a striped awning! I've designed two wood awnings - made one myself and my contractor made the other (they can be a little tricky). Sewing a fabric awning seems like a great project to tackle.  Dana shows how to make a bistro awning.

A Little Boy's Very Charming Playhouse!

Judy Palkovic and husband designed and made this absolutely stunning playhouse for their little boy. Judy explains: My husband and I had always talked about building a playhouse when we started a family. Initially when we'd sit and talk about what the design would be for the house, we envisioned it for a little girl. So when we had our son, we had to rethink how to design it to suit a growing little boy turning 3 (it's part of his birthday present).

Let me preface this by saying that my husband is not a professional contractor or carpenter, and we're far from wealthy! We built this ourselves using free scrap wood, discount materials from surplus home builder centers, lots of careful planning and shopping on ebay, craigslist, etc...and lots of ingenuity, creativity, thought, and love! That's not to say that it was cheap to build, but that we took great pains to keep costs down and stay within our budget.

The old pine shelf on the wall was given an updated look with some coordinating red paint and wainscotting. The handmade wooden train was bought at a craft festival. Airplanes were hung from the ceiling to look as though they're soaring overhead.

The "garage"....

Wrench handles were made for the garage doors!

This is for sure the cutest and cleanest garage I've ever seen - complete with work bench.

Judy thank you for sharing such a wonderful playhouse with us! For more photos and information check out Judy's blog Cutest Little Things.

Fun Filled Playrooms!

Real Simple shares this bright, fun playroom. The denim couch is a simple and durable idea for a playroom and who doesn't like chalkboard walls?

Great idea to continue the colors from the striped wall to the multi-colored carpet.

Looks like an organized space with lots of room for play and creativity. Images from here.

I love the cluster of lampshades in this playroom shared by Modern Momma. The cartoon building is really a fun touch! It looks like it was taken straight from a Superman comic book.

What cool building block chairs--they look comfortable too! The shelving is colorful and provides a lot of space for organizing.

I like the big comfy couch! The artwork is unique against the stripped wall. Image from here.

This looks like a bright and beautiful kid friendly space shared by Inspiring Mama. I love all the big comfy pillows. The built-in seating (with storage) looks like a very inviting and comfortable space to create masterpieces.
