How to Paint Trees in a Kids Room

Tracy from Petite Suites paints really cool trees. When it comes to painting a room, Tracy does a great job. You'll be inspired to create some fun and whimsy in your kids room. Below are photos and tips she has shared with our readers.
trees in kids rooms

I am the owner of Petite Suites (www.petitesuite.net). I specialize in painting/designing nurseries and children’s rooms. My most popular request is “trees”. Because trees are a natural form, they are easy to paint.
Here are a few tips to help you get started:
1. First decide the placement and shape (asymmetrical, etc.) of your tree. Most clients request I paint the tree asymmetrical, above crib or bed.
2. Start with the tree trunk, then branches. Make sure you step back about 4 to 5 feet while painting. Trees may look great close up but stepping away helps with the balance of tree.
3. Add leaves and/or floral blooms. Don’t be afraid to overlap leaves with branches.
4. Add rhinestones to give your tree sparkle and whimsical flare!

Wednesdays - What Color is That??

Isn't this the coolest room ever?? Designed by Wilshire Design Group and murals painted by Leah Watson. This is NASCAR fan heaven! Wall paint color is Monarch Foggy London - Millennium Collection. A roll-up garage door is used as the headboard for the bed. Racing logo was painted using an overhead projector and a steady hand. For more photos of this room check out our boys rooms gallery.

This huge wall decal sure brightens up this kids room. These decals are priced at $160 and are made in Australia (not sure what the shipping would cost). If you prefer to spend about $15, Sherwin Williams paint store has colors-to-go for $5 each. With white walls as a background you would need to purchase 3 colors and use a overhead projector and a drawing on a transparency. One year I used a birthday card and copied it onto a transparency sheet and used the overhead projector - perfect for art challenged people like me. This simple project would take 3-4 hours with drying time in between.
I like the addition of the oars to the bedroom. But I know in my sons room these would have become weapons! Hopefully these are attached to the wall:) More decals here.

Wall Mural Headboard

Great idea! Love this mural painted to look like a headboard. Place bed in front of the mural to create the headboard look. Sweet addition to a kids room with endless possibilities. Mural painted by the talented Leigh Watson.
